Bouncy castles may be fun, but it can all go wrong if you don’t put in a little research. Before you even consider looking one up, there are some important concerns you need to address.
We’ll take a look at these concerns and details so you can get everything in order before your bouncy castle is booked.
Don’t Pick a Bouncy Castle at Random
This first bit of advice may sound like a no-brainer, but don’t just pick the name of a bouncy castle owner at random. A lot of companies do a good job of creating a stellar online presence, but it doesn’t always mean that they will be your best bet.
There are still a lot of other factors that you want to research first, which we’ll talk about next.
Consider Your Audience
Who are you hiring a commercial bouncy castle for?
A lot of people assume a bouncy castle is for children’s events, such as:
- Birthday parties
- Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s
This may be true, but it’s always the case. Some companies use bouncy castles for employee retreats and getaways. They might make team-building exercises out of them or they may simply be there to have some fun and let off steam!
Regardless of who it’s for, make sure you’re getting something appropriate. Some bouncy castles may be themed, such as with superheroes, princesses, movie characters, video game characters, etc.
Other bouncy castles may not even be castles at all! Maybe you’d just like inflatable entertainment in general.
Inflatable slides, basketball hoops, obstacle courses, and more could be the ticket for your next event. Maybe your son or daughter is graduating in a few months and they like inflatable entertainment but maybe they’re a bit too old for a castle. No problem!
Just make sure that you have your audience in mind before you hire a bouncy castle.
Inspect the Quality
Not all inflatable entertainment is made equal. As with any product, you only want the best, so consider inspecting the quality of the bouncy castles before hiring them.
Ensure that all equipment is designed, manufactured and maintained to the highest standards.
In the UK all Bouncy Castles & Inflatables should be manufactured to the BS EN-14960-13 (European standard). Each piece of equipment should be checked annually by RPII Registered inspectors. Companies offering bouncy castles for hire should be able to provide a copy of their annual test certificate on request.
All companies operating for commercial hire should have Public liability insurance & PAT Testing for all electrical equipment.
Look at Consumer Feedback
First of all, choose a bouncy castle owner that has some kind of consumer feedback. No feedback whatsoever is a red flag.
If they’re a new company, then everyone has to start somewhere, so that’s unfortunate. But the more reviews you have to go off of, the better.
Consider looking at:
- Yellow Pages
Check out review sites, social media, and more to see what kind of experiences other people have had with the particular bouncy castle owner you’re looking at. When you’re new to a business, this is the best defense you have at your disposal.
Other than checking out their website, social media, or visiting their physical location in person, you only have other people’s word. If the company has been around for a while, they may have many reviews.
They might even have a 50/50 split of positive and negative reviews! In that case, go through them carefully, take the time to consider what they’re about, and decide what is important to you.
Are there many complaints about something that especially bothers you or you’ve had trouble with before? Move on.
Regardless of where it leads you, online reviews are important and you should always consult them.
Know the Rules
Bouncy castle rules are very important.
Consult any guidelines and rules they may have before hiring one to make sure that you are OK with it. For example, does the owner require only a certain amount of people in the bouncy castle at one time? Do they require the bouncy castle to not have certain food and/or drinks inside? Are there rules regarding having electronic devices or other items on them? Can you mix the age groups?
It is important to consider can the Bouncy Castle be installed inside a premises, outside on grass or onto concrete or hard standing. Remember if a bouncy castle or inflatable is to be installed onto hard standing outside it must be secured to meet a minimum restraint. Many companies will not hire onto hard standing for safety reasons. The companies that do will bolt into the ground directly to ensure absolute safety.
Are you OK with these limitations? If not, you may want to shop around a little more.
Research Before You Hire a Bouncy Castle
Bouncy castles are classic and iconic centerpieces of entertainment and fun. It’s hard to not see one and smile – child, adult, or otherwise.
But when you hire a bouncy castle, it should take a little more forethought than you originally think. Consider who or what you’re renting a bouncy castle for, check reviews, inspect the quality of the product yourself, and check for insurance.
